•:*April 4 - Day 3*:•

One of the most important things I learned this day was a piece of advice from Seth Johnson reiterated to us by Jimmy – “Be curious and never be satisfied.” This piece of advice says it all. As a designer, one needs to be curious about everything and needs to question everything to expand his/her frame of knowledge and to gain a better understanding of the world around him/her. Jimmy also went on to say that we need to have our own experiences of the class. We will not get all we can get from the class if we don’t strive to have the best experience possible from the class. If we don’t have a good experience, we will not be able to carry anything we learned from this class to other classes. The set of experiences we create in this class will supply us with a source of ideas and connections. We will be able to sift through and organize out experiences and tap into them when the need arises. This collection of source materials can be recalled and be integrated into our work. Another great piece of advice Jimmy was able to pass on to us was “find yourself; be who you are and make the most of it. We then briefly went over the Seth Johnson presentation. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the event, but I learned a lot from my classmates about what he spoke about. For example, Seth Johnson presented six points of which to follow as a designer. Johnson’s points are as follows: 1) tell your clients what they need, 2) make your own work, 3) do a lot with a little, 4) shut up and listen, 5) you have an obligation to make things better not just ok, and 6) be curious and never be satisfied.
